INTRODUCTION
Sindh Prisons & Corrections Service (SPCS) has 24 prisons across the province. Total Population is about 20000 whereas authorized capacity is 13538. At the time of independence of Pakistan, there were only 4 prisons in the Province. However, after independence, twenty new prisons have been constructed in Sindh after 1947. Sindh Prisons & Corrections Service (SPCS) is under the umbrella of the Home Department, Government of Sindh. Inspector General of Prisons Sindh is the head of SPCS and the D.I.G Prisons are regional head of respective regions. There is also a training institute of Sindh Prisons & CF at Sindh Prisons Staff Training Institute Nara Hyderabad. SPCS works in accordance with Sindh Prisons & Corrections Service Act & Rules 2019.
The Inspector-General of Prisons & Corrections Service Sindh, Deputy Inspector General of Prisons, and Superintendent of Prisons are custodians of the prisoners. They are responsible for the safe custody of the security of the prisoners, providing living, health facilities, court production, interview, reformation, etc.
